Hydrogen sulphide is one of the most dangerous gases encountered in oil and gas, construction, and industrial environments. A single unprotected exposure can be fatal. Energy Safety Canada's H2S Alive certification is mandatory for anyone who works in or near environments where H2S may be present.

Certification is issued upon successful completion. Your crew is certified and ready for field deployment the same day.
H2S Alive is required for any worker who may be exposed to hydrogen sulphide in the course of their work. This includes oil and gas field workers, pipeline crews, construction workers on energy sector sites, and any worker operating in or near facilities where H2S may be present. If your job takes you to an oil and gas site in Alberta, you almost certainly need H2S Alive.

No, these are different certifications. H2S Alive is the practical, hands-on certification required by oil and gas employers in Alberta. It includes use of breathing apparatus and rescue techniques. H2S Awareness is an online-only course that does not meet the same employer requirements. If your employer requires H2S Alive, an online awareness course will not satisfy that requirement.
